A consultative meeting on promoting and strengthening the national legislation

The consultative meeting implemented by Seyaj within Rased project , funded by Unicef and the European Union.

The meeting that chaired by Mr. Ahmed Al-Gorashi the chairman of Seyaj -with the presence of George Abu-Al-Zalaf- childhood protection officer in Unicef, the judge in Juvenile court Afrah Badwelan, Shawqy Al-Gathy -a member in the Yemeni parliament- the chairman of Nods Yemen organization, the lawyer Abdurrahman Barman – a member in Hood organization and the lawyer Saleh Al-Tayar on behalf of the Yemeni Bar association- discussed a number of interlocutors and issues to come out with integrated visions to support the amendment of Yemeni child law project.

As well as discussing the obstacles of implement and enforce the laws in some customs and traditions and the lack of awareness among some law enforcement personnel.

The meeting suggested to find laws for certain crimes that were not included in the national legislations such as children recruitment in armed conflict, trafficking in human organs and parents' violence against children.

Moreover, the meeting suggested to propose certain characters to work with to modify the law ,to  choose an appropriate time to amend such laws and to  provide them to the competent authorities.

Furthermore, it suggested to make an awareness network, to make special seminars for judges and prosecutions in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice and to form a general framework of the institutions and organizations concerned with the rights of the child to work to modify the Yemeni child law to integrate the efforts of all organizations everyone in its domains.

The consultative meeting concluded to hold another consultative meeting involving law experts to discuss formulation and networking mechanisms to achieve that goal.
